What is ‘Mixed Media’ Art?
At Hatch-d we love mixed media art!
We are constantly surprised and delighted by the many combinations of materials that are being used by contemporary Australian artists. From found, recycled painted timber, to paper, clay, fabric, and found objects such as old books.
Mixed media essential encompasses art that uses more than one medium and is currently very popular in the art world. Some notable artists that have been associated with mixed media are Edgar Degas, Man Ray, Marcel Duchamp, Max Ernst, Paul Klee and Pablo Picasso.
Mixed media adapts really well to many styles and often adds interesting textural elements and tactile appeal to the artwork. Mixed media artists will often draw on some technical training in the use of their chosen mediums but will also use it as a platform to explore new methods, materials and styles which makes mixed media a very exciting and ever evolving art form.
We hope you enjoy or selection of mixed media from Lorna Gerard's affordable mixed media canvases to Leonie Leivenzon’s altered books and clay sculptures incorporating found objects such as twigs and sheet music.Featured Art: Golden Pear Tree by Lorna Gerard
