Lorna Gerard

Born and bred in Sydney NSW. Attended High School at Strathfield South and won my first award for art in 1964 thus began my long journey of creativity. Wanted to be a professional artist but advised by my mother you could not make money or a career from art. Came to Melbourne 1974 with my husband Tony and we have had four beautiful children and now four gorgeous grandchildren.

I travelled along many other paths before deciding art was my true love and attended college to do a Art and Design course in 1989-1990.

Won first prize for a silk painting that I entered in the Royal Melbourne Show then followed other awards for drawing and painting at many local shows

I am an Artist and love to paint, and live, create on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula. A multi-faceted artist my abilities include mixed media painter, silk artist, print maker, teacher, card designer also self-publishing and illustrating my own book.

With over 40 years’ experience gaining skills in mediums and various techniques. I love to experiment in a large range of mediums which have included – acrylic, oil, mixed mediums, encaustic wax, watercolour, pencils, ink, fabric/silk paint. My main passion and focus of most recent years have been mixed media on large canvases, and move between limited series and commissions. Creating makes me happy and feel I create from my soul and love that the art can at times tell a story that is relevant to my life.

Many solo exhibitions throughout my career and have won several awards. My art has been purchased domestically and internationally. I feel very proud when an award winning piece appeared in the MPRG (Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery).

While teaching within a collaborative artist rented space I have mentored and collaborated on a huge 15 x 8 metre work which was shown at Melbourne’s Federation Square.

Teaching childrens’ art classes at McClelland Sculpture Park Guild of Artists in Langwarrin as well as adult art classes locally.
