LIMITED EDITION

What is a limited edition print?

Limited edition prints are a great way to buy an affordable artwork that is not mass manufactured and is produced to a fine art standard by artists and artisans.

Limited edition prints can be hand created pieces such as serigraphs (screen prints) or image transfers – in which case each print is likely to be slightly different from the others making each one a unique and original piece of art.

Giclée prints and photographs are also produced as limited editions and may also be considered ‘limited edition prints’ and are hand-finished by the artist.

When a limited edition print is produced the artist will individually inspect each piece to ensure it has maintained the edition standard and the integrity of the original artwork before individually numbering and signing the work.

The artist will often destroy any screens, negatives, or files associated with that edition so that further works cannot be produced.

The hands-on process of limited editions puts them in the class of original artworks rather than reproductions and can be a great way to own affordable original artwork that may maintain, or grow in value over time.
