Dylan Cooper

Dylan grew up on the Northern coastline of NSW, developing a passion and fascination for the local rock formations and the unique qualities of the Australian landscape.

He has traveled from Queensland to Tasmania finding inspiration in the strength, the history and the geometric patterns of coastal formations.

He now portrays these as he sees them to share his experience with us on paper and canvas, elegantly capturing the texture and tone of the formations with his very keen eye for form structure and placement. He creates depth by layering aerosol paint, acrylic paint and charcoal telling the story of the immense depth of the formations and the layering of time.

Dylan works in his studio from detailed sketches and photographs of particular formations that have captured his imagination and struck an emotional chord. Using the principals of abstract geometric art he has achieved strength balance and unity in his works.

Artist's Statement:

Spending many years passively observing rock formations from the water while surfing, I have developed a need to express the fragmented line, texture and form of our landscape. I have always been drawn to the images in the rock formation and through using multiple layers of acrylic paint, aerosol paint and charcoal I create abstract representations of nature’s amazing compositions.
